If you’re Norfolk Academy, having an Evan Beck in your golf program is a comforting feeling if you ask his coach, Paul Fekins.

“Evan puts us out front”, he says. “He can take a bit of pressure of us and give us a chance.”

The junior is as laid back as they come for the Bulldogs.

“I just try to lead by example”, he says. “I’m pretty much a quiet guy.”

Don’t let the silent exterior fool you. Beck will play a key role for the defending TCIS champs.

He’s got the likes of the University of Virginia chasing after him with scholarship offers. With golf on the brain, Beck has balanced things with playing some basketball this past season.

He explains how playing hoops gave him a break from being on the course and has re-energized him as a golfer. Many have Hampton Roads Academy overtaking the Bulldogs this season, but that hasn’t bothered Beck in the least.

“I don’t really pay attention to it.”

Like his golf game, cool and calm.
