PLAYER OF THE WEEKIan Fraser, Cox High School05:20 PM EDT on Tuesday, May 20, 2008
Ian Fraser is as good as it gets in high school tennis in the state of Virginia. The Cox Falcon has never lost more than one game in a match so far this season. It helps when your father was a tennis pro himself. John Fraser is currently the head pro at Princess Anne Country Club in the beach. His experience includes playing on the A-T-P satellite circuit. In juniors he played against the like of former Wimbledon Champion and number one player in the world, Boris Becker. “I’m a grinder”, says the young Fraser, who doesn’t just love the game, he has a desire for it. “I hate to lose.” John says he saw early signs of what was to come of his son, “I noticed at a young age, maybe 6 or 7. He was putting different spins on the ball and had an understanding of the game.” That understanding has the Falcons primed for this year’s playoffs. The junior has also dominated in doubles, but his ability in singles will make all the difference for the Falcons in the post season. “He’s a very intense player”, says head coach, George Schwenk. “When we put together a game plan, he will do what he is told and stick to that plan.” Cox is hoping Fraser’s plan leads them to a title.
