PLAYER OF THE WEEKShe'la White, Norfolk Collegiate01:40 PM EST on Tuesday, December 11, 2007She makes those around her better at the point guard position and can create her own shot with ease. This week it makes sense that Norfolk Collegiate’s She’la White be our Athlete of the Week. White scored 24 in the Oaks 72-40 blowout against Nandua on Thursday and followed that performance with another 26 in the 81-65 victory over Bishop Ireton. No surprise the senior, who transferred from Wilson High in Portsmouth, can’t wait to get to her choice of colleges in North Carolina next year. “I just felt relieved. The recruiting process is crazy,” she said. “I’m just ready to have some fun.” It’s certainly looking that way for White, who returns as the reigning state Player of the Year amongst independent schools. She’s close to her 25 point average of a season ago. At the rate she’s going, the Oaks are likely early favorites to repeat as TCIS champs. “She’la is special”, said her coach, Suzanne Midkiff. “She takes command on the floor. Her work ethic is outstanding, and I just love the way her game flows.” Don’t be surprised if that flow continues for the Oaks the rest of this season. |
