PLAYER OF THE WEEKDallis Joyner, Granby basketball03:43 PM EST on Wednesday, February 6, 2008Dallis Joyner never showed much interest basketball when he was younger. In fact he didn’t play at all, but that didn’t stop Granby head coach Tiran Matthews from getting the very big and tall freshman to play. “We saw him in the hallway,” Matthews said. “Practice is at 5 o’clock”. Apparently its paid off. The now 6’7” 240 pound senior will be playing his college years at Stony Brook University in New York. He recently left Comet fans some of that large presence in a home game against Maury. With about a minute left in the game and Granby up big, Joyner threw down a two-handed dunk that shattered the backboard. “The whole thing just came down”, Joyner said. The game had to be stopped and the Comets did go on to win, but the funny part was; that wasn’t the first time it happened at Granby. Matthews remembered being at a Comets game seven years ago when forward, Greg Wells shattered the same backboard. Now that its happened to one his current players, he says, “You’d never forget that. That’s something you can tell your grandkids.” Seems like Joyner is adding to the Granby lore. |
