St. Clair Jones relishes being on a baseball field. He’s coached the likes of Nationals third baseman, Ryan Zimmerman. Back in January of this year, his life was changed when he was involved in a car accident. Jones’ car apprarently hit a patch of ice and crashed into a tree. He suffered from a fractured vertebrae in his lower back that left him paralyzed. That didn’t stop the 37-year-old. Jones was back with the team less than a month later. “I needed to be here,” he says. Jones would return for his 7th season with the Knights; a team that picked to be middle of the pack in the pre-season Beach District is near the top and getting ready for the upcoming district tournament. When asked who had make the toughest adjustment since his return, Jones replied, “None of them said ‘Coach you need to come back.’” Regardless, everyone in the baseball community is thankful he’s back, and he’s just as inspiring. |
