Jeff Dicus has left Lake Travis for the head coaching job in Duncanville, a suburb of Dallas.
Dicus led the Cavaliers to the Class 4A Division II state title in 2007, and had a 45-15 record in five seasons at Lake Travis. Prior to Dicus' arrival, Lake Travis won one game in two seasons.
Duncanville ISD superintendent Dr. Alfred Ray cited Dicus' ability to turn programs around. He saw it first hand when the two were together at Texas City.
Dicus is known for producing great quarterbacks. Todd Reesing, who led Kansas to an Orange Bowl victory, played under Dicus at Lake Travis. In 2007, Lake Travis junior Garrett Gilbert passed for over 5,000 yards.
Dicus is originally from South Dakota. He played football and baseball at the University of South Dakota and moved to Texas in 1983. He had other head coaching stops at Boerne and Mission in South Texas.
Former Duncanville head coach Dan Schreiber resigned in November following a 3-7 season, the third year in a row for the team to miss the playoffs. In nine seasons prior (1996-2004), Duncanville made the playoffs every year.
