TOP STORIESBastrop gets new football coach05:57 PM CST on Wednesday, January 16, 2008Bastrop ISD announced that the Bears will be under the direction of Coach Gerald Perry in 2008. Perry comes to Bastrop from Plano East where he was the Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach since spring 2002. Perry started his coaching career back in 1993 as a coach for Lorena Middle School and was promoted to the head football/athletic director after his first year. He was also the assistant track and basketball coach during that time. In 1996, he moved to Lake Worth High School in Fort Worth. From 1996-2000, he filled various positions including special teams coordinator, head track coach, offensive coordinator and defensive first assistant. From 2000 to 2002, Perry made the transition to Burleson High School as a passing game coordinator and assistant track coach. Since 2002, he has been at 5A Plano East Senior High. His offense will bring an up-tempo, no huddle, multiple formation game plan, that in Plano, averaged 437 yards and 36 points a game including throwing for over 3,000 yards. The aggressive defense will include multiple fronts, coverage’s and stunts. Perry will be taking the place of Coach Ron Schroeder, who retired at the end of the 2007 season. |
