TOP STORIESLake Travis gets new head coach05:47 PM CST on Tuesday, February 5, 2008Lake Travis Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Rocky Kirk joined Lake Travis High School principal Charlie Little in announcing that Chad Morris has been selected as Head Football Coach/Athletic Coordinator at Lake Travis High School.
Morris, who is currently the head coach at Class 4A Stephenville High School in Stephenville ISD, replaces Jeff Dicus who was hired as head football coach at Duncanville High School last month.
According to the TISD Superintendent, the District based its search for their new coach on three major objectives. “As we searched for the right person to fill this role, it was imperative that we select someone who possessed three primary attributes: 1.) a clear understanding of the appropriate roles of football, athletics, and other extra-curricular programs in the total educational program of the district; 2.) qualities of character and integrity that reflect the highest calling of service to and role model for our students; and 3.) a demonstrated record of excellence and success on the field. I believe Coach Morris is the right fit, at the right time for LTHS,” stated Kirk.
Morris brings impressive credentials to his new position at Lake Travis. During his 14-year head coaching career, Morris has amassed a win-loss record off 135-25. During that time, his teams have played for four state championships. While at Bay City ISD, Morris led the Black Cats to the 4A state championship in 2000. In 1998, he was named the Fox Sports Coach of the Year and in 2000 was named the Houston Chronicle Coach of the Year. He serves on the Texas High School Coaches Association board of directors and is a nine-time District Coach of the Year. “Chad is one of the most successful and respected coaches in Texas,” said LTISD Deputy Superintendent Dr. Diane Frost. No doubt, he will bring to Lake Travis High School the same qualities of work ethic and skills that have allowed him to be successful throughout his career.”
Little shared his excitement regarding Coach Morris’s joining the LT team. “Coach Morris clearly has the credentials, skills, and competency that we have come to expect at Lake Travis High School. Most importantly, he is a team player who will work collaboratively and supportively with the academic, athletic, and other extracurricular entities at our school. I am truly excited to have the opportunity to work with someone of his caliber who is respected state-wide.
According to Coach Morris, the Lake Travis position was attractive to him and his family because of the ingredients for success that are in place. “Lake Travis has all the qualities a successful coach looks for in a school and community—great staff, parent and community support, terrific students, good facilities and a commitment to the well-being of students. All of these things are in place in Lake Travis. My family and I are excited to take on this new challenge, and we know there are wonderful days ahead in Lake Travis.” Coach Morris and his wife Paula have been married for 14 years. They have two children, an 11-year-old daughter, McKenzie, and a seven year old son, Chandler. Morris is expected to begin his work in Lake Travis as soon as next week
