Lacey Lea had 23 kills and Katie Milam added 22 to lead defending champion Wimberley to the Class 3A state volleyball title with a 26-28, 25-20, 16-25, 25-17, 15-10 victory against Monahans today.
Wimberley won its sixth state title in nine years and beat Monahans in the final for the second time in the past four years. Monahans was the 2004 champ.
Bailey Marcum had 26 kills for Monahans, Jordan Latham added 18 and Heather Schulz 10. Kaitlin Mitchell had 55 assists for the Loboes.
Wimberley's Kaili Cusack had 25 assists and freshman setter Maddie Milner added 21.
Westlake's volleyball team got swept in the 5A finals by Amarillo, 25-19, 25-17, 25-19.
In the Saturday playoff action in high school football, Westlake fell behind early against San Antonio Reagan, and couldn't complete a comeback. 34-27 the final.
Bowie gave up an early touchdown to Converse Judson, and then had a field goal blocked to lead to another Rocket score. Converse Judson advances, 21-10.
Better news for LBJ. On the road, the Jaguars squeaked past Brenham, 20-18. LBJ will play Houston Furr in the second round.
And Pflugerville moves on, with an overtime win in Killeen over Temple. 34-31 the final, as all four 14-5A teams win their first round games. |
