HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW?Valley girl breaking records in the archery circuit06:06 PM MST on Tuesday, December 18, 2007Robyn Repp, 17, also known as Robin Hood, is making a name for herself in the archery world. “I set three world records in England and that gets told a lot at school,” Repp said. She set those records when she was 14 years old. And with her senior year at Valley Christian High School wrapping up in the next couple of months, the Sun Devil Archery Club is taking a closer look.
“She’s what we need for the Arizona State University team because the hardest team to come up with, to fill out the team, is female compound shooters,” said Sun Devil Archery Club coach Kari Granville. Granville knows a thing or two about archery. She competed for ASU, when it was still recognized as a varsity sport. “They were memories and experience I wouldn’t trade for the world, which is why I’m happy to do this for them,” Granville said. The program was cut from ASU in the early’90’s. It just recently came back as a club after senior Ted Harden approached Granville about starting up a team again. “It’s a great sport, keeps you focused and really teaches you how to go after your goals,” Harden said. In fact, since making a comeback, the archery club is turning out all kinds of All-Americans and hopefully some 2008 Olympians. “I guess when I got my first coach is when I realized that I wanted to do this for real and not just once a week,” said Sun Devil Archery Club member Lindsay Pian. “It’s a lot more technically, a lot more going on here and the competition is fierce,” said teammate Ashley Votruva. “The real love of the sport for me is the competition,” said Dakota Sinclair, another teammate. “You can’t really beat the thrill of competing.” “It’s not like golf where they have silence and things like that,” said Maggie Huff. “I mean, other teams cheer and they rant.” While the team is busy getting ready for next year's season, Repp and the gang have some advice for people who don't know anything about this sport.
