TOP STORIESScottsdale basketball team getting healthy02:21 PM MST on Friday, January 18, 2008The Desert Mountain High School varsity boys’ basketball team is heating up the court this season. But it's what they're learning off the court that can give them more energy when taking on an opponent. “Picture your bodies as a car,” said Total Nutrition owner Michael Restrepo. “Do you want to be the slow pinto on the court or a fast Ferrari?” Restrepo is giving the Wolves some advice when it comes to eating healthy. He and Joshua Filani own Total Nutrition in Scottsdale.
“We offer different services like nutrition seminars that we have at different high schools, different churches,” Filani said. When you come to Total Nutrition buying vitamins and supplements isn't the only thing you can do. Filani said they offer nutritional assessments that include tips on healthy foods and exercise. “A lot of its education and with the guys at Total Nutrition and with my own company that’s really what were all about, educating the people,” said Ironbody Lifestyle Fitness JR Rosania. Rosania’s company is one of the places Total Nutrition sends clients to when looking for a program to help them get fit. “When I look around and kids that are 12, and 13 and 14 and they’re overweight and fat, it’s scary to think that’s the way the generation is going,” Filani said. So what do the Desert Mountain basketball players think about what Total Nutrition is trying to do? “I think I’ve been eating healthy before, but he emphasized a lot about protein,” said senior Kyle Smith. “So I might do a little more of that.” “Keep doing what I’ve been doing and try and eat healthy,” said another senior Colby Wagner. “I’m probably going to get more protein shakes and lift more.” Filani and Restrepo’s goal is to not only help educate student athletes about the importance of being healthy, but anyone who wants a fresh start. “We pride ourselves on knowing that you’re going to get the proper information when you come to our store,” Filani said.
