TOP STORIESWeek 4 - We Have a Plan!10:53 AM MST on Thursday, January 31, 2008With ship date fast approaching, we needed to firm up our plans for how we will manipulate the large 48 inch ball in this year's game. Although our base has been driving since week 2, manipulation plans have been sketchy at best. In order to give our programming team access to the robot, we decided to build out the "manipulator" on a separate fixed platform and then transfer it to the robot base when it is complete. We also had an opportunity to visit the CocoNuts (team 2486 in Flagstaff). With fundamental principles such as coop-etition (cooperative competition vs. win-at-all-cost) and gracious professionalism (behaving at all times in ways that would make your grandmother proud), FIRST encourages veteran teams to help rookie teams - even it requires driving 4 hours through rain, sleet and snow. The CocoNuts were actually in pretty good shape. Their chasis and drive train were constructed and they had a preliminary wiring layout functioning on the bench. After a few hours of programming assistance, they went from "How are we gonna do this?" to "We can do this!". Neil, their lead programmer, learned one of the many valuable lifelong lessons that all FIRST students learn - asking for help beats banging your head against the wall every time.
3TV All the teams will be taking it up a notch this week to make sure they make the ship deadline of 5pm February 19th. Below is a list of the Arizona high schools with FIRST Robotics teams. Check in with YOUR team to see how they're doing during this six week build period. Camp Verde High School & South Verde High School |
