Rock Hill South Pointe defensive back DeVonte Holloman heads to South Carolina as an all-purpose threat. CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- They are expected to shine in college, and some will go on to the NFL. While some may not have had the best high school statistics because of injuries or lack of team support, all are believed big enough and fast enough to have an impact in college. That potential makes them members of the Observer's annual Carolinas Top 50 college football prospects list – 25 from North Carolina, 25 from South Carolina. The team is headed by Jacksonville Northside defensive end Donte Moss, the top prospect in North Carolina, and Rock Hill South Pointe safety Devonte Holloman, South Carolina's top prospect. Moss has committed to play for North Carolina, Holloman to South Carolina. If there is a theme on this year's Top 50, it's that coach Butch Davis has North Carolina dominating in-state recruiting. He has commitments from four of our top five, and he is in the running for the fifth. Also Online South Carolina and coach Steve Spurrier have kept many of the state's top prospects home, and Clemson also has had an impact. And don't forget Duke. The Blue Devils have upgraded their Carolinas recruiting under coach David Cutcliffe. After talking with coaches, writers and recruiting experts in the Carolinas, we list our five best college prospects in each state, followed by the next 20 in alphabetical order.
