BOYS
Arlington Bowie: Bowie took the Region II title by a wide margin. Nine of its wrestlers qualified among 15 weight classes for state. Coppell: It could be a long shot, but the second-place team in Region II might surprise with four qualifiers who are among the favorites to win in each of their weight classes. Lake Highlands: Led by coach Pete Grieder, the team claimed its 16th district title in 18 years and won Region III two weeks ago. Six wrestlers qualified for state.
GIRLS
Arlington Lamar: The Lamar girls have three legitimate candidates to win state in Mia Provence (119), Suzanne Baker (128) and Frances Efiong (138). Arlington: Team finished third in Region II and has four qualifiers, including returning state champion Amanda Athon (215). Coppell: Should be the favorite with six qualifiers, led by regional winners Tessa Plana (138), Lauren Marsolak (148) and Yadinma Nwaiwu (215). POTENTIAL REMATCHES
BOYS
Bowie's Erik Simons vs. Allen's Roderick Gaines (112): Last year, Simons defeated Gaines in the 103-pound state final. But Gaines beat Simons this season. Coppell's Dillon Horn vs. Euless Trinity's Deandrea Carter (135): Both were undefeated when Carter beat Horn for the Region II title. Lake Highland's Austin Cordova vs. Allen's Eden Bernstein (145): Cordova remained undefeated after beating Bernstein, 2-1, in the Region III final.
GIRLS
Coppell's Tessa Plana vs. Arlington Lamar's Frances Efiong (138): Plana was undefeated before falling to Efiong but avenged her loss at the Region II final. Frisco Centennial's Emily Martin vs. Arlington Bowie's T.J. Cannon (110): Cannon beat Martin in last year's regional. Martin won a rematch in this year's Region II final. YOUNG GUNS Cody Curtiss, Frisco Centennial, So.: He is 42-0 at 103 and one of the team leaders Roderick Gaines, Allen, So.: State runner-up last year at 103; he is 33-3 at 112 Isaac Kinsella, Lake Highlands, So.: 125-pounder is 28-1; injury ended last season Karra Stratton, Frisco Wakeland, So.: 148-pounder is 36-4; second place at Region II Zach Waldrop, Keller, So.: 125-pounder is 47-7 and won Region II FAMILY MATTERS Ben and Matt Robinson, Coppell: Senior Ben, a returning state finalist, is 33-2 after winning Region II at 171. Freshman Matt, who is 31-11, qualified as an alternate at 119. Pete and Isaac Grieder, Lake Highlands: Pete was named Region III coach of the year for his work at Lake Highlands. His son Isaac, a 140-pound sophomore who's 41-4, finished second at regionals. Isaac would be Pete's second son to compete at state. SCHEDULE (at Delco Center, Austin)
