At state: Double gold in 4A 200 freestyle (1:50.36) and 500 freestyle (4:55.64). About Arnold: She is a repeat state champion in both individual events. Did you know? Wished I could be a figure skater.
Caitlin Baran, Southlake Carroll, Sr.
At state: Tied for ninth in 5A 200 IM (2:07.19), 10th in 100 breaststroke (1:06.12). About Baran: Ranks 32nd in a class of 668 and plans to pursue pre-med studies at Princeton. Did you know? Can play the cello and piano but stopped taking lessons because of time issues.
Gwen Blythe, Colleyville Heritage, Sr.
At state: Runner-up in 5A 100 breaststroke (1:03.36), tied for 9th in 200 IM (2:07.19). About Blythe: Plans to swim and study engineering at Notre Dame, which she chose after visits to SMU, TCU, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M and Texas. Did you know? Every morning, she drives 15 minutes to a Southlake bagel shop for a chocolate chip muffin and a toasted plain bagel.
Genny Konicke, Plano, Sr.
At state: Won 5A 50 freestyle (23.58), runner-up in 100 freestyle (50.77). About Konicke: Arizona signee won three individual medals in two trips to state meet here after moving from Alaska. Did you know? Says she's become obsessed with sushi since trying it in December.
Maureen McLaine, Plano West, Jr.
At state: Runner-up in 5A 500 freestyle (4:50.72), tied for sixth in 200 freestyle (1:50.51). About McLaine: The 2008 Region III girls outstanding swimmer made two previous trips to state as a relay team member. Did you know? She failed swim lessons when she was in the first grade, leading to her mom's decision to sign her up for a swim team.
Stephanie Martin, Woodrow Wilson, Sr.
At state: Won 4A 100 breaststroke (1:05.32), fifth in 100 butterfly (59.38). About Martin: Has medaled in all four state appearances, capped by rare swimming gold for DISD. Did you know? Wishes she could sing better.
Jordan Morcom, Grapevine, Sr.
At state: Runner-up in 5A diving (453.65). About Morcom: The Missouri signee was third at state as a sophomore and junior. Did you know? She has an unusual pet – a sugar glider named Oscar.
Jaclin Rehring, Allen, Jr.
At state: Runner-up in 5A 200 IM (2:03.01), fourth in 100 butterfly (56.19). About Rehring: She began swimming at age 9 and has qualified for state three straight years. Did you know? Musically inclined (piano and saxophone) but gave up school band for swimming.
Caitlin Rogers, Plano, Sr.
At state: Third in 100 5A butterfly (56.12), fifth in 500 freestyle (4:56.33). About Rogers: Plans to swim and study pre-med at Columbia University. She is ranked No. 64 in a class of 1,300. Did you know? At 2005 Senior Nationals, while looking for Michael Phelps to take a photo, she ran into him by accident.
Lauren Roth, Carrollton Creekview, Sr.
At state: Sixth in 500 freestyle (4:56.86), eighth in 200 freestyle (1:51.33). About Roth: Chose Purdue over Princeton, Kentucky and Ohio State and plans to study sports psychology. Did you know? She likes to bake desserts, especially cakes and cookies. NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR
Taylor Temple, Hebron, Fr.
At state: Fifth in 5A 100 breaststroke (1:04.71). About Taylor: An Ohio native, her dad coached her, just as her grandfather once coached her dad. Did you know? Enjoys writing poetry and reading historical fiction. COACH OF THE YEAR
Jesse Cole, Highland Park
About Cole: In his first year at Highland Park, he led the team to its UIL-record-tying eighth straight state championship. Did you know? Always wanted to be a chef. RELAY TEAM OF THE YEAR
Plano 400 freestyle Caitlin Rogers, Kristen Gilson, Leanne Hill and Genny Konicke finished third at Class 5A state in 3:30.82. SECOND TEAM
