CHRIS MEARS, BISHOP LYNCH, SO., 103 POUNDS
Notable: Mears (59-5) took second at the National Prep meet. He won TAPPS and Texas Prep State titles after not placing last year at the UIL state meet with Justin Northwest. Did you know? Mears enjoys hunting and fishing.
ERIK SIMONS, ARLINGTON BOWIE, SR., 112 POUNDS
Notable: Simons, 32-6, won at the regional meet and was the UIL state runner-up. Last season, he won state at 103 pounds. Did you know? Simons' father married the mother of Ryan Hill, a 125-pound Bowie wrestler, last summer. The couple met during a wrestling tournament. Simons began the school year at Allen.
DANNY LUTTRELL, ARLINGTON, SR., 119 POUNDS
Notable: Luttrell was named outstanding wrestler at the UIL state meet after winning his second title to finish 53-0. He won 105 straight matches dating to his sophomore year. Did you know? Luttrell was kicked out of karate when he was 4 because teachers thought he was too violent.
RILEY ADAMSON, BISHOP LYNCH, JR., 125 POUNDS
Notable: Adamson (63-3) claimed third place at the National Prep meet. He also won TAPPS and Texas Prep state titles. Did you know? Adamson plans to become a doctor.
JEREMY SANDOVAL, COLLEYVILLE HERITAGE, JR., 130 POUNDS
Notable: Sandoval recorded three pins on his way to winning his third state title. He has won 104 of his 105 matches in his high school career and went 30-0 this season. Did you know? His older brother, Josh, a 2007 Heritage graduate, wrestles at Naval Academy Preparatory High School.
DEANDREA CARTER, EULESS TRINITY, SR., 135 POUNDS
Notable: After missing last year's tournament, Carter (57-0) won his first UIL state title at 135 pounds. The regional champion outscored his state opponents, 49-12. Did you know? Carter took yoga two years ago so he could relax. But he quit after a year to focus more on wrestling.
TYLER LEE, FLOWER MOUND MARCUS, JR., 140 POUNDS
Notable: Lee (44-0) captured his first UIL state title after beating previously undefeated Bobby Barney of Austin Anderson in the final. Did you know? Flower Mound Marcus faces Tyler Lee (the school) next season, and classmates are already teasing him about whom he will root for.
AUSTIN CORDOVA, LAKE HIGHLANDS, SR., 145 POUNDS
Notable: Cordova, 35-1, took third at the UIL state meet after his only loss off the season to eventual state champion Collin Brown of Amarillo Tascosa. Did you know? He is captain of the Wildcat Wranglers country- western dance team that performed in London's New Year's Day parade.
JOHNNY KOEPP, BISHOP LYNCH, SR., 152 POUNDS
Notable: A TAPPS and Texas Prep champion, Koepp (42-2) took second at the National Prep meet. Did you know? Koepp was named to the TAPPS all-state team as a running back. He rushed for 1,116 yards with 10 touchdowns last season.
ALEX MUNOZ, BISHOP LYNCH, SR., 160 POUNDS
Notable: Munoz, 70-2, won a National Prep meet title. He placed second at Ohio's Ironman and at Illinois' Dvorak tournament. USA Wrestling ranked him No. 12 in the nation. Did you know? Munoz was a gymnast for 10 years.
BEN ROBINSON, COPPELL, SR., 171 POUNDS
Notable: Robinson (36-3) won his regional meet and placed second at the UIL state tournament. He also finished state runner-up last year. Did you know? In the seventh grade, Robinson struck out 19 batters in a no-hitter.
KIMMEL MCKINNEY, LEWISVILLE, SR., 180 POUNDS
Notable: After not qualifying for state last season, McKinney won the regional meet and placed fifth at UIL. He finished 35-5 and won a Lamar Invitational title. Did you know? McKinney likes to draw animals and wildlife. "I like to go camping with my family and friends," he said.
ROBERT PRIGMORE, SOUTHLAKE CARROLL, SR., 189 POUNDS
Notable: Prigmore won his first UIL state title at 189 pounds. The Lehigh signee finished the season with a 31-0 record and 29 pins. Did you know? Prigmore was a starting defensive back on the 2006 state championship team at Southlake Carroll. He also started on last year's football team.
KELDRICK HALL, MOLINA, SR., 215 POUNDS
Notable: A year after qualifying as an alternate, Hall became the first wrestler from the Dallas ISD to win a UIL state title. He finished 32-0. Did you know? Hall likes to listen to gospel music before matches.
MOHAMMED USMAN, ARLINGTON BOWIE, SR., 285 POUNDS
Notable: Usman (23-1) finished second at the UIL state meet. His only loss was to John Gioffre from Katy Cinco Ranch in the state final. A year ago, he didn't qualify for state. Did you know? Usman signed to play football at Houston. His older brother, Kamarudeen, wrestles at Nebraska-Kearney. COACH OF THE YEAR
DAVID MUDGETT, ARLINGTON BOWIE
Notable: In his 14th season at Bowie, Mudgett guided the program to third place at the state meet, the best team finish in school history since UIL adopted wrestling. Bowie also won its district and regional meet. Mudgett said the key was having a group of seniors that cared for each other like family. "We walked with our heads held high," he said. "We knew we were a good program and we proved it that weekend." Did you know? Mudgett never placed in a state tournament as a high school wrestler in Oklahoma. He said he was always getting kicked out of the team and tournaments because he would fight a lot. "I was a bad kid," Mudgett said. NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR
MATT ROBINSON, COPPELL, FR., 119 POUNDS
Notable: Robinson won his district meet with three pins and placed fifth at the regional meet. He went 31-11 for the year, including 4-1 at the State Duals. Did you know? Matt is the younger brother of all-area first-teamer Ben Robinson, a UIL state runner-up. SECOND TEAM
