T.J. CANNON, ARLINGTON BOWIE, SR., 110 POUNDS
Notable: She went 19-4 and was runner-up at the UIL state meet. Two of her four losses were against wrestler of the year Emily Martin at the regional final and state final. Did you know? Cannon works at Sonic.
MIA PROVENCE, ARLINGTON LAMAR, SR., 119 POUNDS
Notable: Provence came into the UIL state tournament with a perfect 30-0 record and 28 pins. But the regional champion suffered her first loss of the year in the semifinals against El Paso's Liza Gutierrez, the eventual champion. Did you know? Provence changed her last name from Mickelson after Daniel Provence, a former coach, adopted her. Daniel married Mia's mother, Lee Mickelson.
TESSA PLANA, COPPELL, SR., 138 POUNDS
Notable: Plana won her second UIL state title at 138 pounds and finished 39-1. She avenged her only loss of the season against Arlington Lamar's Frances Efiong in the regional final. Did you know? Plana started taking judo classes at age 6 and has a brown belt.
JESSICA SCOTT, ARLINGTON MARTIN, SR., 185 POUNDS
Notable: After not qualifying a year ago, Scott won the UIL state title with four pins. She finished the season 30-3, but was undefeated at 185 pounds. Did you know? Scott has played the viola for the last eight years and has been a member of Martin's philharmonic orchestra since she was a sophomore.
AMANDA ATHON, ARLINGTON, SR., 215 POUNDS
Notable: After losing in the regional final against Coppell's Yadinma Nwaiwu, Athon came back and beat her in the UIL state final. She recorded four pins on her way to a second state title and finished 33-4. Did you know? Athon played soccer for 12 years before her coach persuaded her to try wrestling as a freshman. COACH OF THE YEAR
CHIP LOWERY, COPPELL
Notable: After five years as an assistant at Coppell, Lowery became head coach this season and led the girls team to second place at the UIL state meet. Coppell had one state champion, Tessa Plana, and three who placed. "We didn't have a full team all year long," Lowery said. "But all the girls worked really hard." Lowery said a lot of his wrestlers competed in different weight classes for the good of the team. Did you know? Lowery, who lived in Los Alamitos, Calif., would go to bed at 7:30 p.m. when he was in middle school so he could wake up early and go surfing. "I missed a few years of prime-time TV," he said. BRITTANY JONES, COPPELL, SO., 165 POUNDS
Notable: In her first full year on varsity, Jones placed fifth at the UIL state meet and finished 28-9. She also finished third at the regional tournament. Did you know? Jones started working March 2 at Great American Cookies in Grapevine Mills mall. She needed money to pay for her car insurance. SECOND TEAM
