ATHLETES OF THE WEEKSportsDay swimmer of the week: Wil Singley02:23 AM CST on Monday, January 14, 2008What he did: Singley helped his team defeat Class 4A powers Richardson Pearce (205-80) and Highland Park (210-95) by winning both of his individual events in a tri-meet Thursday at Southlake Carroll. The stats: Singley won the 200 freestyle (1:44.21) and 100 freestyle (47.76). He was a member of two victorious relays, the 200 freestyle (1:32.13) and the 400 freestyle (3:20.30). Who is he? A 5-11, 155-pound senior. He said it: "I'm really more of a distance guy, so I'll be swimming the 500 freestyle instead of the 100 freestyle at district and regional. Our relays are swimming great splits and that takes us one step closer to where we want to be." Coach said it: "Wil is training tremendously and is going to have a stellar state high school championship in February. He can swim any event we need in our dual meets." – Kevin Murphy Did you know? Singley has already reached All-American automatic cuts in 100 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 200 freestyle, and 500 freestyle. Murphy said Singley could make All-American in every event offered in high school swimming. ... Wil was born in North Carolina, but at age 3 moved to Texas with his family. ...
