ARLINGTON SAM HOUSTON What she did: Despite a hamstring injury, the sophomore had marks of 40-3 in the triple jump and 19-4 in the long jump to win both events and defend her district titles at the 8-5A meet. She's the area leader in both events. She said it: "I just stayed strong for my team and my coaches. I couldn't let this injury show. I just had to hide it and do what I had to do with a hurt leg." Coach said it: "She's just a gifted and talented young lady. On top of that, she's a competitive person who doesn't like to lose." – David Hill Did you know: Hightower was introduced to jumping in junior high because "I had long legs," and she credits Sam Houston jump coach Greg Peters with assisting her development. ... Hightower's favorite subject is math.
