IRVING What she did: McClanahan won the shot put with a throw of 42-1 at the Lancaster regional qualifier meet Friday. She said it: "I've been trying to get the height up and get my hips turned. I think it'll put me out there. I'm trying to get a 47." Coach said it: On how she improved from 41 feet to 45-9 in the last four weeks: "She's really concentrating on her follow-through. In the past, she had been stopping halfway and throwing off her arms." – Joseph Evans Did you know? McClanahan took up the shot put in the seventh grade. ... She finished third as a sophomore at the 2007 regional – just shy of a state berth – and is determined not to come up short again. ...
