TOP STORIESWrestling notebook: Bishop Lynch faces another elite test10:20 PM CST on Wednesday, January 2, 2008After traveling to Illinois during the holidays, Bishop Lynch returned home for this weekend's Lone Star Duals at South Grand Prairie. Bishop Lynch, the top-ranked team in the state, finished sixth in last week's Dvorak Memorial Wrestling Tournament, despite taking only eight wrestlers because of injuries. Tray Silver (130), Tanner Eitel (145) and Alex Muñoz (160) had second-place finishes. Chris Mears (103) and Riley Adamson (125) got third. Bishop Lynch will look to improve upon last year's seventh place in the Lone Star Duals. Coppell, Austin Bowie and Katy could be its toughest competition.
Grapevine hopes for better luck as host The Grapevine Duals haven't been kind to the host team. Grapevine hasn't advanced past the pool round since 1999, but it could be different this weekend. Led by sophomore Joe Andrews (103) and junior Zach Balod (125), the team started 7-0. "Since I've been at Grapevine, we really had some good individuals, but this is the most rounded team that we have had in a long time," coach Albert Lujan said. Seven of the top 10 teams in the state will participate in the meet starting Friday, Lujan said. Grapevine wouldn't want it any other way. "For us to be an elite team in the state, we've got to wrestle the best teams in the state," he said.
