Jeffcoat racked up 94 tackles with 11 for losses, 20 quarterback pressures, seven sacks and four passes broken up. Did you know? Jeffcoat, the son of former Cowboys defensive end Jim Jeffcoat, is also a standout in basketball.
Taylor Bible, Denton Guyer, Jr. Position: Defensive line Height, weight: 6-3, 278 2008 All-Area Football About Bible: A converted linebacker, Bible is constantly getting into opponents' backfields as a tackle. He recorded 42 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, four sacks and 26 quarterback hurries. Did you know? Bible has received scholarship offers from Arizona, Baylor, Kentucky and Texas Tech.
Siosaia Tuipulotu, Euless Trinity, Sr. Position: Defensive line Height, weight: 6-2, 285 About Tuipulotu: The District 5-5A Defensive Player of the Year, nicknamed L.T., registered 85 tackles in 2008, including 15 for losses and four sacks. He is orally committed to Utah but plans to go on a religious mission before starting his college career. Did you know? Tuipulotu played rugby growing up in Tonga until he moved to the U.S. two years ago.
Josh Mauro, Hurst L.D. Bell, Sr. Position: Defensive line Height, weight: 6-6, 215 About Mauro: Mauro, who has committed to Stanford, covered a lot of ground. Recorded 80 tackles and had 12 sacks while helping Bell to a playoff berth. Did you know? Mauro pulled double duty as a tight end. He caught seven passes for 155 yards and touchdown.
Corey Nelson, Skyline, Jr. Position: Linebacker Height, weight: 6-2, 215 About Nelson: An adept pass rusher as well an in-the-box run-stuffer, Nelson produced huge numbers in 2008. He piled up 156 tackles, 12 sacks and 19 tackles for losses. He also blocked four punts. Did you know? A top student, Nelson participates in the SMU's Upward Bound college prep program.
Austin Moss, Rockwall-Heath, Sr. Position: Linebacker Height, weight: 6-2, 210 About Moss: The District 10-4A Defensive Player of the Year tallied 143 tackles as the centerpiece of the Rockwall-Heath defense. Moss, an Arkansas recruit, had five sacks and caused four fumbles. Did you know? Moss is the son of Rockwall-Heath coach Mickey Moss, the 10-4A Coach of the Year.
Alex Norman, Hebron, Sr. Position: Linebacker Height, weight: 6-2, 192 About Norman: Playing on the outside, Norman registered 46 tackles and seven sacks as a key cog in one of the area's top defenses. Forced four fumbles, recovered two, broke up seven passes and snared an interception. Did you know? Norman was also Hebron's leading receiver as a tight end with 32 catches for 432 yards and four touchdowns.
Greg Brown, Garland, Sr. Position: Defensive back Height, weight: 5-7, 150 About Brown: The District 10-5A Defensive MVP had four games with more than 15 tackles. Recorded 160 tackles and five tackles for losses. Picked off four passes, caused four fumbles and recovered two. Did you know? Brown is the younger brother of Oliver Mitchell, who played defensive back and running back on Garland's state semifinal team in 2006.
Steven Terrell, Allen, Sr. Position: Defensive back Height, weight: 5-10, 175 About Terrell: A three-year starter, Terrell posted 122 tackles and two interceptions – the biggest being his 90-yard return for a touchdown in the state semifinals. Also had an amazing knack for blocking kicks. He blocked five this year after blocking six the year before. Did you know? Terrell, a Texas A&M recruit, is ranked in the top fifth of his class of 1,261 seniors.
Donovan Bonner, Lincoln, Sr. Position: Defensive back Height, weight: 6-2, 210 About Bonner: One of the main reasons Lincoln's defense recorded five shutouts. Bonner was a first-team All-State pick with 47 tackles, 23 passes broken up and seven interceptions – including two returned for TDs. Did you know? Bonner, who has committed to Colorado State, played at Spruce until its program was dissolved before the season.
Kevin Brent, South Oak Cliff, Sr. Position: Defensive back Height, weight: 6-0, 205 About Brent: Quiet by nature, Brent does his talking with his pads. He totaled 81 tackles, 47 solo, while maintaining a reputation as a hard hitter. He had five tackles for losses and scored three TDs off turnovers. Did you know? Brent, an Oklahoma recruit, was pressed into service at middle linebacker for two games this season.
Nick Tausch, Jesuit, Sr. Position: Kicker Height, weight: 6-0, 175 About Tausch: Possesses one of the strongest legs in the area. Made nine field goals in 2008, including kicks from 53, 51 and 47 yards. On kickoffs, he boomed 22 touchbacks and limited opponents to a 16-yard return average. Did you know? Tausch, a Notre Dame recruit, is the son of former NFL offensive lineman Terry Tausch.
