Scotty Young, Denton Ryan, Jr. Position: Quarterback Height, weight: 6-3, 190 About Young: Passed for 4,495 yards in his first season as a starter, completing 289 of 458 passes with 11 INTs. His 65 TD passes were two shy of Graham Harrell's season state record. Broke every school passing record. Did you know? Young is also a talented pitcher. Last season as a sophomore, he was called up from the junior varsity in the playoffs and closed out two Game 3's.
Kendial Lawrence, Rockwall-Heath, Sr. Position: Running back Height, weight: 5-10, 180 About Lawrence: Led area 4A rushers with 2,679 yards and 43 TDs. Averaged 9.4 yards per carry while leading Rockwall-Heath to a 13-1 season and its first playoff berth. His 365-yard, five-TD game against Highland Park was one of the season's most memorable performances. Did you know? Lawrence, whose nickname is "Showtime." would like to be a sports agent.
Stepfan Taylor, Mansfield, Sr. Position: Running back Height, weight: 5-11, 205 About Taylor: Gained 2,463 yards in 13 games to lead area 5A rushers. Averaged 6.2 yards a carry and scored 33 touchdowns. In the playoffs, he ran for 195 yards and two touchdowns in a 20-14 upset of No. 3-ranked Abilene. Did you know? Taylor, who has orally committed to Stanford, says his favorite movie is The Waterboy.
Kyle Guinyard, Ennis, Jr. Position: Wide receiver 2008 All-Area Football Height, weight: 6-1, 180 About Guinyard: Led area 4A receivers with 110 catches for 1,751 yards. Produced 20 touchdowns while averaging 15.9 yards a catch. Broke the school record with a 19-catch performance in the playoffs against Kilgore. Did you know? Guinyard gave up playing baseball when he got to high school. "I wanted to focus on football so I could be the best I could be," he said.
Kris Lott, Plano, Sr. Position: Wide receiver Height, weight: 6-2, 200 About Lott: Finished second among area 5A receivers with 1,187 yards. A terrific possession receiver, caught 81 passes and scored eight touchdowns while averaging 14.7 yards a catch. Did you know? Lott is the youngest son of former Oklahoma quarterback Thomas Lott. His brothers, Alex and Thomas III, also had standout careers at Plano.
Mike Davis, Skyline, Jr. Position: Wide receiver Height, weight: 6-2, 175 About Davis: A terrific deep threat, Davis averaged a whopping 19.6 yards per catch. He totaled 1,138 yards, third best among area 5A receivers. He can make the clutch catches, too, with 16 touchdowns among his 58 receptions. Did you know? Davis should be one of the area's top recruits for the 2010 signing day class.
Collin Ashley, Flower Mound, Sr. Position: Utility Height, weight: 5-11, 170 About Ashley: One of the area's top cornerbacks moved to receiver in 2008 and became one of the area's top all-around offensive threats. Caught 71 passes for 955 yards and 17 TDs. Averaged 36 yards per kickoff return, including one for a score, and 16 yards per punt return. Did you know? Ashley started in center field as a sophomore. He took a year off from baseball but expects to play again.
Thomas Ashcraft, Cedar Hill, Sr. Position: Offensive line Height, weight: 6-5, 290 About Ashcraft: Big and athletic only begin to describe Ashcraft, who has committed to Texas. Averaged eight pancake blocks a game this season and graded over 90 percent. Did you know? Ashcraft, an honors student, started at left guard as a sophomore during Cedar Hill's run to a state title in 2006.
Hanur Kim, Plano, Sr. Position: Offensive line Height, weight: 6-3, 275 About Kim: A starter since he was a sophomore, Kim was Plano's top blocker in one of the area's most explosive offenses. He recorded 98 pancake blocks this season. Did you know? Kim is president of his senior class, which numbers about 1,400. His parents were born in Korea.
Joel Gray, Hebron, Sr. Position: Offensive line Height, weight: 6-6, 285 About Gray: Gray, who's orally committed to Texas Tech, led one of the area's most effective offensive lines. Known for his quick feet, Gray graded out at over 90 percent for season and started 35 games during his high school career. Did you know? Gray writes poetry. He had a poem published in an anthology when he was in middle school.
Jesse Coffey, Denton Guyer, Sr. Position: Offensive line Height, weight: 6-7, 295 About Coffey: A Nebraska recruit, Coffey was a big part of Guyer's surprising run to the state semifinals. He graded at 91 percent for the season and recorded 52 pancake blocks. Coffey was a three-year starter for Guyer. Did you know? Coffey has a 5.0 grade-point average and is tied for class valedictorian. He intends to study engineering in college.
Cedric Ogbuehi, Allen, Jr. Position: Offensive line Height, weight: 6-4, 250 About Ogbuehi: The most consistent blocker on one of the most imposing lines in the area, despite playing defensive line until last spring. Ogbuehi averaged a 91 percent blocking grade for the year and recorded 45 pancake blocks and 52 knockdowns. Did you know? Ogbuehi had to delay a trip to Nigeria, where his family is from, to play in the 5A Division I state title game.
