Remaining collected, he then watched Duncanville miss two shots in the final six seconds as his team held on for a 68-67 win in front of a packed Cedar Hill gym crowd Monday.
"I tried not to go nuts, because we're still young," Milson said. "We've got to play them again, and it may be a totally different story next time."
The game featured two of the state's best teams: Cedar Hill is No. 2, and Duncanville is No. 5 in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches/TexPreps Basketball magazine 5A state poll.
Cedar Hill (20-2, 3-0) led, 68-58, with 1:30 left to play.
But Duncanville got baskets from Reger Dowell, Roger Franklin and Shawn Williams to trim the lead. Williams made a layup and was fouled with 26 seconds left. He made the free throw to cut the lead to one.
Duncanville (15-7, 3-1) forced a turnover with 23 seconds left and had two chances to win the game, but Williams – who had a game-high 25 points – missed a 15-footer, and Perry Jones missed a putback in the final seconds.
Briefly: Duncanville girls coach Cathy Self-Morgan earned the 800th victory of her career after her team overcame a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Cedar Hill, 50-44.
