Realignment highlights Five key developments from the UIL's biennial realignment announced Friday: 1 DeSoto placed in East Texas district again: Two years after successfully appealing a realignment with East Texas schools, DeSoto will join Tyler Lee, Tyler John Tyler, Mesquite, North Mesqutie and Mesquite Horn in District 11-5A. The move splits up DeSoto's rivalries with Duncanville and Cedar Hill. 2 DISD 5A schools joining Richardson, Carrollton: As expected, Carter and Bryan Adams moved down to 4A. As a result, the remaining DISD 5A schools – Skyline, W.T. White, Sunset and Molina – join Richardson Berkner, Lake Highlands, Richardson and Carrollton Creekview. It's the first time Dallas has split a 5A district since 1988. 3 Plano schools, Allen move to Region I: Plano ISD schools, Allen and Wylie will now travel west for playoffs in Region I after moving from District 9-5A to 8-5A. McKinney Boyd and Jesuit replace the Richardson ISD schools. 4 Southlake Carroll moves to six-team district: Southlake Carroll's football success scares off potential nondistrict opponents. Coach Hal Wasson is scrambling to find nondistrict games for next year after learning he would play only five district games in the new six-team 6-5A. 5 Rockwall, Rockwall-Heath paired: Rockwall ISD schools have resisted playing each other, but now they will be in District 10-4A. Rockwall dropped to 4A after losing enrollment to Heath. |
