TOP STORIESSouth Garland hires football coachWright led Farmersville to state title last season12:46 AM CDT on Thursday, March 27, 2008Keith Wright, who led Farmersville to the Class 2A Division I state football championship last season, has been hired to coach South Garland. Wright, 52, was 28-10 in three seasons at Farmersville, including 13-2 in 2007. He is 136-60 overall in 17 seasons, although he has never been a head coach above the Class 2A level. "I've spent 26 years coaching and I've always coached at small schools," Wright said. "It's a great opportunity to be in 5A ball and, in my opinion, to coach one of the top programs in Texas." Wright said he is not concerned about making the jump from 2A to 5A. He has been an assistant at 5A San Marcos and 4A Mount Pleasant and was an NFL wide receiver for three seasons. Wright said he doesn't intend to use the same I-formation, two-tight end offense he employed at Farmersville. South Garland was 10-2 running the spread offense last season. He replaces Mickey Moss, who left in February to coach Rockwall-Heath. Wright will start Tuesday at South Garland. |
