Fort Worth Dunbar, however, is the national leader in the event after running a 1:35.94 in the Region I preliminaries. Dunbar followed that showing with a time of 1:36.50 in the regional final to secure the top seed. First-year coach Tamara Johnson made a New Year's resolution to get Carter a state berth, and it came to fruition with a run of 1:39.50 in the 5A Region II meet. Carter is seeded sixth. Mansfield Summit and South Grand Prairie upstaged defending 5A champion Mansfield Timberview in the Region I meet and head to state seeded third and fifth.
