TOP STORIESAway from the game: Hockaday's Adriane McCrayAthletes who distinguish themselves away from competition09:19 PM CDT on Wednesday, May 7, 2008
Adriane McCray
HOCKADAY, SENIOR Notable: McCray is president of the Voices In Harmony gospel choir at Hockaday. She coordinates practices, prints out sheet music, selects attire and arranges transportation for performances. Sport: Track. She is a sprinter and jumper. Favorite song to perform: "Everybody Clap Your Hands," by Joshua's Troop. "We mostly sing it at the beginning of the performances we do, and I like how it surprises everybody and the fact that we want them to get involved. It's not just us singing to them. Everybody is performing as well, getting into it and singing." Where to find Voices In Harmony: Women's shelters, cultural events, and, for the last three years, the North Park Mall. "We're invited to community service things, so you really get to get out there and make people sing. We go out and sing for everyone." Other activities: Basketball, Entre Nous French honor society, Youth in Government, Holy Trinity religion education aide. Next up: Besides being a track athlete at Penn, McCray plans to join the New Spirit of Penn gospel choir. "It's very similar to what I'm used to at school, just kids getting together day-to-day singing gospel music." If you have a nomination for Away From the Game, e-mail it to jorourke@dallasnews.com |
