From the opening gun of the season, the consensus 5A favorite has been Lewisville senior Markus Henderson. The Texas Tech signee finished third at the 2007 state meet in his first season of track. His season-best 20.64 leads the state and is second in the nation. He is seeded first after a 20.74 run in the 5A Region I meet.

Arlington Seguin senior Kevin Hobson is seeded second in 4A at 21.43, but Mercedes' Alex Trevino (third at state in 2007), and Waco's Charles Silmon (fourth in 2007) should make this race a tough one. Hobson was at state as a sophomore on the 4x100 relay and will make his individual event debut at state this season in the 100 and 200.

Crowley's Terrance Edwards ran his best time of the season, 21.70, at the 4A Region I meet and is seeded fourth.

Aransas Pass' Jacolby Williams in the lone returnee in 3A. He was sixth in 2007.
