Duncanville was the surprise winner of 5A Region I with a run of 3:15.89. Its previous best was 3:19.61 achieved at the District 8-5A meet.

The road to the title still runs through defending champion DeSoto, which ran a season-best 3:15.99.

The 5A favorite, however, is Fort Bend Marshall, which owns the No. 1 time in the state and No. 2 time in the nation at 3:14.19. Marshall's time came at the Region III meet.

Defending 4A champion Lancaster leads all area teams and heads to state seeded No. 1 after running 3:15.56 at the Region II meet. Fort Worth Eastern Hills, which finished seventh in 2007, is seeded fourth (3:18.09).

Madison was the 3A runner-up in 2007. Greg Jordan, Bobby Hicks, Tyson Brown and Nathaniel Sowells posted a 3:20.40 while winning the 3A Region II meet. That mark almost two seconds better than the next competitor, Lubbock Cooper.
