Rowlett junior Marquise Goodwin defends his 5A title in a field that includes Houston Nimitz's Richard Knotts, the top-seeded jumper and third-place finisher in 2007.

Mansfield Timberview's Antoine Hicks, a Texas football recruit, has been a factor in several meets this season and could make his way into the top three. Mansfield junior Matt Childers had his best jump of the season, 22-9 ¾ at the 5A Region I meet.

Lancaster's Freeman Kelley is seeded fourth in 4A. Plainview's Michael Egnew, the 2007 runner-up, is seeded first in the division.

Defending 3A champion Kendall Wright of Pittsburg was knocked out in the Region II meet by Atlanta teammates Demon Haire and Bobby Washington. Haire finished sixth last season.
