Expect South Grand Prairie senior Jarard Bruner to keep the heat on favorite Marquise Goodwin, a Rowlett junior, in the 5A competition. Both hit their top marks of the season at their regional meets. Goodwin, the 2007 state runner-up, at 49-8 ¾ and Bruner, a Texas recruit, at 48-8 ¼ .

Irving MacArthur's Mike Brooks posted a 46-10 ¾ , his best jump of the season, at the 5A Region I meet.

Pittsburg senior Kendall Wright, a Baylor football signee, is the defending 3A champion and overwhelming favorite to repeat. Wright's season-high of 48-10 ½ , which was the third-best jump in the state this season, came at the 3A Region II meet.
