The defending 4A champs own the top seed by more than a three-second margin over No. 2 Waco Midway. DeSoto seized the 5A title in 2007 and owns the top seed after running a season-best 3:44.21 at the Region I meet. Skyline, which placed third last season, ran its best time (3:45.62) at the District 11-5A meet and is seeded sixth after running 3:47.23 in 5A Region II. Houston Westside was fourth in 2007 and has the third-best time in the state this season (3:45.02), which it ran at the 5A Region III meet. North Crowley edged 2007 5A runner-up Cedar Hill for second place at the Region II meet by .7 seconds and enters state seeded fifth at 3:47.18.
