Sam Houston State signee Tomi Garrison was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and pitched a complete game to lead Garland to a 5-1 win over Plano West in Game 1 of a best-of-3 Class 5A Region II quarterfinal series Thursday at McKinney High School.

Garland (27-4-2), which is trying to become the first UIL softball team to win three consecutive state titles, has won 13 in a row. Plano West (28-7) saw its winning streak end at 12.

Garland trailed, 1-0, before scoring four runs in the third inning. Texas State signee Fra'Shekia Knight had a triple and an RBI for Garland.

Mesquite 1, Plano East 0: Nikki Jordan pitched a four-hit shutout and struck out six as Mesquite (28-9) won Game 1 of a best-of-3 5A Region II quarterfinal series. Ashlee Faries drove in the game's only run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

Flower Mound 5, Colleyville Heritage 0: Bethany Hardzinski was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Flower Mound to victory in Game 1 of a best-of-3 5A Region I quarterfinal series.

Iowa State signee Lauren Kennewell pitched a six-hit shutout and struck out seven for Flower Mound (25-6-2).

Midlothian 3, Waco Midway 2: Lindsay Fallen's two-out single in the bottom of the seventh drove in Kaydee Bland with the winning run as Midlothian won Game 1 of a best-of-3 Class 4A Region II series against the state's third-ranked team.

Midlothian (26-8) trailed, 2-0, before scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth. An RBI single by Brittany Caruthers tied the score.

Fallen pitched a four-hitter, and Hannah Miller had two hits for Midlothian. Jade Laurence took away two extra-base hits with a pair of outstanding catches in right field.

Waxahachie 3, Red Oak 0: Andi Allen pitched a one-hit shutout and struck out seven as Waxahachie won Game 1 of a best-of-3 Region II quarterfinal series between District 15-4A rivals.

Sherri Polanco was 2-for-3 with one RBI for Waxahachie (26-10), and Tori Banda was 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Celina 4, Royse City 2: Kassidy Holmes pitched a one-hitter and struck out five to help the state's ninth-ranked 3A team win Game 1 of a best-of-3 Region II quarterfinal series.

Brittanie Knowles was 3-for-4 and scored two runs for Celina (24-10), and Joey Cronin was 2-for-2 and scored one run.
