Junior attackman Kevin Fritts chipped in three goals for Highland Park, which also won state lacrosse titles in 2004 and '05. ESD, which scored two of its goals in the final four minutes, was the defending state champion. Highland Park (17-3) won its final 11 games of the season, including the North District championship over ESD last weekend. "It was a total team effort all year," Highland Park coach Derek Thompson said. McKnight, who on Saturday scored five goals in a semifinal win over Austin, was named MVP of the state tournament. He is a North District all-state selection and an All-American nominee. Highland Park sophomore goalie Jordan Lee made 14 saves Sunday. Junior attackman Will Ziegler and senior attackman Travis Gallivan scored Highland Park's other goals. Briefly: Highland Park II won the Division II championship, beating Houston Cy-Fair, 17-10. Junior attackman Blake Lafitte was named offensive MVP in Div. II, and sophomore defenseman B.G. Yarbo was named defensive MVP. ... Hockaday won the Div. I girls title, beating Houston St. John's, 13-12, in overtime. |
