Only two walks – one to open the game and another in the seventh inning – kept McLean from throwing a perfect game. "If she keeps pitching like that, we will be in very good shape," coach Dan Sedgwick said. "I'm very impressed." Game 2 will be at 7:30 p.m. today in Waxahachie. McLean, who will attend North Texas Central College, deferred all credit to her defense, which didn't commit any errors, and freshman center fielder Hailey Wagner. Wagner finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, and she also came up with a spectacular diving catch in the fourth inning that kept McLean's no-hitter intact. McKinney North, which had 10 hits, jumped out front with four runs in the second inning. Wagner started the outburst with a two-out single. Four batters later, first baseman Meaghan Knowles' two-run single made it 4-0. Wagner singled and scored in the fourth inning. She also singled as part of McKinney North's three-run sixth inning. |
