Poteet ace Teddy Nowell allowed just four hits over six innings. Poteet broke the game open with six runs in the fifth inning for an 8-1 lead over its District 10-4A rival. Brett Doe hit a bases-loaded double for two runs during the big inning, followed by a two-run single by Taylor Wilcox. Poteet (28-4) added seven more runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a two-run double by Tyler Dowse in his second at-bat of the inning. Game 3 of the best-of-3 series is at 1 p.m. today at McKinney Boyd. Highland Park 7, McKinney North 3: In McKinney, senior pitcher Joey Hainsfurther had six strikeouts, allowed five hits and went 2-for-5 with a double to lead Highland Park (34-7) in Game 2 as it swept the best-of-3 Class 4A regional semifinal playoff. Hainsfurther went 4-for-9 and had two home runs in the series. Southlake Carroll 2, Coppell 1: In Southlake, Tanner Toal and Will Watson had RBIs in the fourth inning to rally Carroll (17-17) to the victory in Game 1 of the best-of-3 Class 5A regional quarterfinal. Ross Stripling allowed three hits and improved to 11-0 with the complete game win. Game 2 is scheduled for noon today at Coppell. Rowlett 14, Allen 0 (5): In Rowlett, Andrew Johnson and David Jackson each homered and had three RBIs as Rowlett won Game 2 in five innings to sweep the Class 5A regional quarterfinal. Rowlett (33-1-2) had 10 straight two-out hits as part of an 11-run third inning. Nine of Rowlett's 16 hits went for extra bases. Waxahachie 17, Ennis 7 (5): In Waxahachie, Hestand Foster had a three-run home run as part of a four-RBI night in Game 2 as Waxahachie (27-5) evened the best-of-3 Class 4A regional quarterfinal in five innings. The deciding Game 3 is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Waxahachie. |
