TOP STORIESRed Oak's Stanfield takes over as Southlake Carroll volleyball coach12:03 PM CDT on Wednesday, June 10, 2009Arthur Stanfield, one of the state's top volleyball coaches, said he has resigned from Red Oak to take over at Southlake Carroll. Stanfield won three championships (1992, 1995, 2002) in seven state tournament appearances during his 19 seasons at Red Oak. Red Oak hasn't lost a district volleyball match since 1990, Stanfield said. Stanfield, 53, has coached in the area for 29 years, including stops at A. Maceo Smith, Grand Prairie and Fort Worth Castleberry. His record at Red Oak was 627-136 and he's 747-166 overall in 24 seasons as a varsity volleyball head coach. "It's a big change," Stanfield said. "Red Oak is going to be awfully good. They should be in the regional finals. I hated to leave some of those kids I've known since kindergarten. It'll be a new world in 5A and a very competitive district. They have great tradition at Carroll, but it'll be a challenge.” Stanfield, whose hire was approved Monday night by the Carroll ISD Board, is replacing Wyvonne Walling. Walling, 45, resigned following her mid-April arrest for being caught performing a lewd act with a man, police said, while in a pickup at a Roanoke park. The man, 45-year-old Barry Luckie of Bartonville, was also taken into custody. Walling and Luckie were released from custody after posting bail of $1,000 each. Walling had also been Carroll's interim girls athletic director, head of the physical education department and an assistant track coach. |
