TOP STORIESHighland Park, Southlake Carroll to test drive new quarterbacks in Tom Landry ClassicHP aims for historic 700th victory08:14 PM CDT on Friday, August 29, 2008Today's Tom Landry Classic will feature two significant debuts and one potential milestone. Highland Park is one victory from becoming the first Texas high school football team to reach 700 wins. Highland Park plays Red Oak at 7:30 p.m. at SMU's Ford Stadium. Highland Park is 699-240-27 dating to 1923, according to records compiled by texashsfootball.com. "I think what sinks in is how many other people have been involved in getting us to this point," Highland Park coach Randy Allen said. "And how fortunate we are to be at a school that's averaged over eight wins a season for 85 years." This will be Highland Park's second attempt to reach 700 wins. The first was a 36-34 loss to Lake Travis in last season's Class 4A Division II state title game. Both games of the Landry Classic will include the starting debut of a player continuing a quarterback legacy. Kyle Padron will start for Southlake Carroll, which takes on Plano West at 4:30 p.m. Padron, the backup to Riley Dodge last season, continues a line that includes Missouri's Chase Daniel. Luke Woodley starts his first game for Highland Park, which has produced top passers such as Georgia's Matt Stafford. "I just expect him to play his role, and his role is to be a leader and play with poise and confidence," Allen said.
