TOP STORIESTribute planned at Samuell-Bryan Adams gameSamuell player who scored Forester's first TD to be honoredDanny Ellsworth, who helped lead Samuell to the quarterfinals of the state football playoffs in 1962, will be honored tonight at Forester Field before the season opener between Samuell and Bryan Adams. Ellsworth, 62, a running back, scored the first touchdown at Forester, which opened in 1962. Along with quarterback Guy Griffis, Ellsworth was recruited by Texas Tech. He will be honored in the pregame ceremony that begins at 6:15 p.m. For many, the Ellsworth story is poignant. Now living in Hamilton, Texas, he's suffering from a rare form of facial cancer. Samuell alumni recently sought to honor him, and Dallas Independent School District officials have chosen to erect a plaque in his honor at Forester, in recognition of his having scored the first touchdown. As a pitcher for the school's baseball team, he threw a perfect game. The plaque will be unveiled at the ceremony, which Ellsworth plans to attend.
