TOP STORIESDefense comes through for No. 1 Euless Trinity12:42 AM CDT on Saturday, October 11, 2008BEDFORD No. 1 Euless Trinity and No. 7 Colleyville Heritage feature two of the area's best offenses, but Friday night's clash of District 5-5A unbeatens came down to which team made the most important defensive stops. Trinity's defense delivered when it counted in a 35-28 victory in front of 12,000 at Pennington Field. The biggest defensive play came at the end of the game when Trinity's Dustin Emery intercepted a pass by Colleyville Heritage quarterback Steven Hill. Trinity (6-0, 3-0) benefited from big stops in the second quarter. With the score tied at 14, Trinity forced Colleyville Heritage (5-1, 2-1) to punt in two of its last three possessions of the first half. Trinity's offense used sound clock management and a healthy combination of the run and pass, particularly on its final first-half possession. A 28-yard pass from Denarius McGhee to Tyree Tucker gave Trinity a 28-14 lead 10 seconds before halftime. Trinity scored on all four of its first-half possessions. McGhee threw two touchdown passes, and running back Tevin Williams rushed for two scores. Colleyville Heritage, however, refused to quit, cutting a three-touchdown deficit to seven points in the fourth. Hill found Jake Skinner on a 5-yard pass to cut the lead to seven with 3:01 remaining. Colleyville Heritage, in its final shot to tie the score, marched 32 yards before Emery's interception. Trinity's defense finished with three sacks, two forced punts and the pick. The loss overshadowed a solid performance by Hill, who completed 40 of 58 passes for 396 yards and two touchdowns. Hill also rushed for a touchdown. Bryan Head caught 13 passes for 108 yards and also rushed for a score. |
