RICKY MOON / Special to DMN Carter quarterback Jarvis Phillips is pressured by Kimball's Jonathan Jefferson and Chris Moten. It marked the seventh straight season that Carter (6-0, 3-0) has defeated neighboring rival Kimball (1-5, 1-2) in a game called the Oak Cliff Super Bowl. Carter, the state's seventh-ranked 4A team, rolled up 357 of its 408 total yards on the ground. Its offense converted three fourth-down situations, including on the game's first touchdown, which came on a 15-yard pass from Phillips to Greg Ethridge. Carter's defense limited Kimball to 148 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers, but Kimball managed some big plays. The first was a 48-yard pass from Darryl White to Tramon Robinson in the second quarter. That set up a 4-yard touchdown run by Keldon Hampton that cut Carter's lead to 12-6. Carter answered with an 8-yard touchdown run by Phillips. With Carter leading, 25-8, late in the third quarter, Kimball got a break when Quiameron Washington returned a fumble 63 yards to the Carter 15, setting up a 1-yard touchdown run by White. White then threw to Desmond Baker for the two-point conversion to make it 25-16. But Kimball couldn't stop Carter's running game. Carter added two fourth-quarter touchdowns, including an 18-yard run by Miller. He finished with 123 yards on 14 carries, and Phillips had 101 yards on 17 carries. |
