Klein Oak (10-1) scored four touchdowns and generated 274 yards in the second half of a 34-10 win at Round Rock ISD Athletic Complex.
Klein Oak initially used a run-heavy strategy but was forced to go to the air in the final two minutes of the first half to set up its first score.
Tied at 7-7 at halftime, Klein Oak hit big passes to pull away in the second half. Andy Wilson found Michael Starr for a 23-yard touchdown to give Klein Oak a 14-7 lead two minutes into the half.
A 26-yard completion to Tory Waites set up the next score for a 20-7 Klein Oak lead. A 31-yard touchdown run by John Michael Cook made it 27-7 early in the fourth quarter. Lake Highlands failed to cover a pooch kickoff, and Klein Oak scored again two plays later.
"We got a couple of completions and got a lot more confidence," said Wilson. "Their defense was playing real soft, and we just hit the open areas."
Lake Highlands (10-3) scored on QB Ricky Zorn's 1-yard run to cap a 10-play drive midway through the first half.
"We're young in the secondary, and physically they outmatched us in a couple of positions," Lake Highlands coach Scott Smith said.
"They did a good job of getting the ball in the right position and making plays."
