Baseball NewsLittle things help CC Moody oust Fort Worth Arlington Heights01:01 AM CDT on Thursday, June 11, 2009ROUND ROCK – Corpus Christi Moody's best hitter, Rudy Flores, didn't get a hit or drive in a run. Fort Worth Arlington Heights neutralized the 11-homer, 61-RBI senior. But Moody didn't need any kind of power to score runs Wednesday. Just a couple of ground balls, a fly ball and an error were more than enough in a 6-4 victory in a Class 4A semifinal at the UIL state tournament at Dell Diamond. Moody (37-3), ranked No. 1 in three national polls, beat out double-play relays in the second and third innings, scored a run on a fly ball in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh on a throwing error to the plate. The sixth run scored on a single, but by then Moody had plenty of breathing room. Arlington Heights (29-9) could only have wished for as much bang for its swings. It went 4-for-13 with runners in scoring position, including 0-for-5 in the first three innings and 1-for-10 at one point. Arlington Heights drew four walks and got eight hits against Moody ace Justin Meza (17-1). But until the seventh inning, only No. 9 hitter Steven Redfield and No. 3 hitter John Biggs managed hits with runners at second or third. Biggs' RBI triple and Mitchell Lichtie's RBI single in the seventh rallied Arlington Heights within 6-4 with one out, but a double play ended the game. The missed opportunities were too much for Arlington Heights to overcome by the seventh, when Moody scored three runs in the top half for a 6-2 lead. Two runs scored on a throwing error, the last of four errors by Arlington Heights. Texarkana Texas 15, Brenham 9: Slade Heathcott had four RBIs, and Logan Preston and Carlton Bailey added three each to help Texarkana Texas win a Class 4A state semifinal. Texas High (29-7) used a seven-run second inning to take a 7-1 lead. Heathcott had a three-run triple and Preston and Bailey each had RBIs after being hit by pitches. Texas High added three runs in the third. Brenham (32-6) scored seven runs in the top of the fourth, but Texas High added four runs in the bottom of the inning. Caleb Dudley (8-1) got the win in relief, giving up one run in 32/3 innings. Windthorst 11, Thorndale 0: Cole Hemmi scattered four hits over six innings, leading Windthorst over Thorndale in the Class 1A state semifinal. The game was called after six innings after Windthorst (33-8) scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to force the mercy rule. Colin Schreiber went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored twice for Windthorst. Miles 9, Overton 7: Jay Rodriguez homered and drove in five runs for Miles in a Class 1A state semifinal. Rodriguez's two-out home run in the top of the first gave Miles (18-9-1) a 3-0 lead. Rodriquez's single in the fifth drove in two more as Miles opened an 8-2 lead. Overton (28-6) rallied with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. But Rodriguez came through again in the seventh. He drew a walk, then scored on Michael Acosta's single.
