Baseball NewsUIL state baseball championships roundup11:00 PM CDT on Friday, June 12, 2009ROUND ROCK, Texas – Luis Dejesus hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning Friday, sending Lufkin to today's Class 5A state championship game with a 4-2 victory over Pearland. Lufkin (30-9) will play El Paso Socorro (34-4), an 11-3 winner over Austin Westlake in the other semifinal. Pearland left the bases loaded in the top of the 11th inning. In Lufkin's half of the inning, Agustin Enriquez singled to left before Dejesus hammered a pitch from Kevin Miller to left center for his first hit in five at-bats. Socorro was led by Bobby Mares, who struck out six, and Jessi Ray Navarrette, who went 3-for-4. With the score tied 3-3, Cory Falvey put Socorro ahead for good with a three-run homer in the fourth. Class 3A title game Carthage 5, Giddings 2: In Austin, Crispin Stanley pitched a complete-game six-hitter as Carthage won the program's third state title. Earlier Friday, Carthage defeated Andrews, 4-3, in a game that began a night earlier but was suspended because of rain and lightning. Class 2A title game Dunbury 6, Holliday 5: In Austin, Garrett Zimmerle's fifth-inning sacrifice fly completed Danbury's rally from a 5-1 deficit. |
