After trailing by as much as 19 points, Dunbar (15-2) trimmed the lead to four with a minute remaining before falling, 78-73, to Monroe Carroll of Louisiana. Monroe Carroll's advantage down low helped it take a 17-point lead into halftime. Forwards Terrance Henry (6-9) and Brandon Wilson (6-6) dominated the boards and thrilled their fans with spectacular dunks. Henry finished with 27 points and Wilson added 21. But the duo made less of an impact in the second half because of foul trouble. That allowed Dunbar, led by guard Darious Jones, to make a run in the third quarter and cut the lead to 58-48. Jones led Dunbar with 25 points. Sophomore guard Darius White stepped it up in the fourth quarter, hitting a three-pointer that cut the lead to three with four minutes remaining. White scored seven of his 11 points in the fourth quarter. FW Southwest fires away: After hitting nine 3-pointers in its second-round victory over No. 11 Elgin, Fort Worth Southwest, ranked No. 9 in the TABC state rankings, drilled 18 3's in a 104-75 rout of Southlake Carroll. Junior Derrick McDowell scored all 18 of his points on 3-pointers, and Kendall Timmons, a Tulane signee, added three long-range shots. Down 63-44 at the half, Carroll pulled within 13 at 65-52 on Neil Duval's dunk early in the third quarter. But Southwest finished the period with an 18-2 spurt. Duval, a Furman signee, finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds. It was the fourth time this season that Southwest (15-3), which averages over 95 points per game, scored 100 points. Irving wins thriller: A day after losing to Flower Mound Marcus on a 3-pointer at the buzzard, Los Angeles Crenshaw suffered yet another heart-breaker in the consolation quarterfinals, 66-62 in overtime to Irving. Led by forward Demariaus Washington, Irving (12-6) made five of eight free throws in overtime. Crenshaw scored just three points in the extra period. Ponder pulls through: After 17 lead changes and six ties, Ponder (19-2) took control in the fourth quarter and claimed a 52-47 win over Tyler Chapel Hill (15-5) in the blue division semifinals. Ponder outscored Tyler Chapel Hill, 8-2, over the final 3:30. Junior forward Joel Garza put Ponder ahead for good with a key basket during that stretch.
