Girls Basketball NewsSouth wins TGCA 4A-5A All-Star Game, 72-6712:35 AM CDT on Friday, July 11, 2008GRAND PRAIRIE – Despite a 15-point performance by Rockwall's Shelby Adamson, the North all-stars were defeated by the South, 72-67, on Thursday night in the Texas Girls Coaches Association 4A-5A basketball all-star game. A three-point play by DeSoto's Sydney Carter with 15.6 left brought the North within 70-67. The North trailed by as many as 13 in the second half. The South got the ball past halfcourt, was fouled with 8.8 to go and missed both free throws. The North secured the offensive rebound with 7.2 to play. But a steal and two free throws by Alief Elsik's Adaora Elonu sealed the victory for the South. Elonu, a Texas A&M signee, scored 20 points to collect the game's MVP award. Carter, also a Texas A&M signee, added 14 points for the North. In the A-2A-3A game, Mount Vernon's Aly Sherman and Canyon's Brittany Hampton scored 16 points each to lead the North all-stars to a 75-60 victory over the South. |
