Nationally ranked Carroll has won 79 of its last 80 games and 48 in a row. Carroll features 11 returning starters, including eight on offense. The team's winning streak will be tested in Week 2 against Florida power Miami Northwestern and possibly in district play against highly touted Grapevine.

Expect more of the same from Carroll's high-powered offense, which includes big numbers from QB Riley Dodge (committed to North Texas), RB Tre' Newton (Texas) and WR Blake Cantu (Oregon). Expect more of the same from Carroll altogether if its young defense matures early.

Trivia time
Four Carroll quarterbacks in five consecutive seasons – Chase Wasson (2002), Chase Daniel (2003-04), Greg McElroy (2005) and Riley Dodge (2006) – have won state AP Offensive Player of the Year honors. Denton Ryan's James Battle was the last quarterback not from Carroll to win the award. ... The last time Carroll lost a game was Dec. 20, 2003, when Katy squeezed out a 16-15 win in the 5A Division II state championship game. |
