Football NewsTim MacMahon's Hot Picks10:30 PM CDT on Thursday, October 9, 2008
1. Colleyville Heritage vs. Euless Trinity Trinity has the perfect combination to slow QB Steven Hill and the potent Colleyville Heritage offense. The Trojans can keep Hill & Co. on the sideline with their overpowering rushing attack. Hill will have to deal with a secondary that features Big 12 recruits Eryon Barnett (Texas) and Prinz Kande (Kansas). Pick: Euless Trinity 27, Colleyville Heritage 20
2. Flower Mound at Hebron Hebron has turned the ship around after an 0-3 start, but Flower Mound has been phenomenal since the first possession of the season. This should be Flower Mound's first close game, and it's hard to pick against Hebron at the Woodshed, but the Jaguars will keep rolling into a showdown of unbeatens with Carroll. Pick: Flower Mound 31, Hebron 24
3. Southlake Carroll at Coppell This game will be a lot like Coppell's 57-41 loss to Highland Park. The Cowboys' high-octane offense will put up enough points to make it interesting, but Coppell isn't ready to hang with an elite team. Pick: Southlake Carroll 49, Coppell 35
4. Lake Highlands vs. Richardson Berkner I really think Berkner will bounce back from a loss to Carrollton Creekview to reclaim naming rights of the Boneyard. But I was so wrong with my pick that Skyline would whip Lake Highlands that I'm scared to pick against the Wildcats again. Pick: Lake Highlands 24, Berkner 20
5. Denton Ryan at Lake Dallas Maybe this matchup of two of the area's prolific offenses ends before midnight. I thought Ryan coach Joey Florence might've exaggerated when he told me junior Scotty Young was the best QB he's had. After 27 passing TDs in five games, Florence's statement doesn't seem so silly. Pick: Denton Ryan 63, Lake Dallas 56
