Gatorade announced Thursday that Greenhill freshman Chelsey Sveinsson, SportsDay's 2007 Girls Newcomer of the Year, is its 2007-08 Gatorade Texas Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.
The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence and high standards of academic ahievement and exemplary character.
Sveinsson was the only freshman competing at the national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in San Diego. she finished 15th in 17 minutes, 58 seconds.

A native of Iceland, Sveinsson, also a competitive swimmer, won the Southwest Preparatory Conference cross country meet by 47 seconds.
She maintains a 3.8 GPA and is a Miss Teen Pageant competitor. She also has been named all-region choir by the Texas Private School Music Educators Association.
"Some girls are fastest when they are freshmen, but I don't think that's Chelsey's case," Greenhill coach Mike Krueger said in a press release. "I think her best days are ahead of her.
"We knew she was special but she hadn't seen great competition untile hte end of the year. We had no idea how she's handle it. Actually, she makes it look pretty easy."
